Chlamydia,symptoms And Its Treatments

Chlamydia is one of the most common and curable sexually transmitted diseases. Chlamydia is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. This is sometimes known as the clap and the silent STD because the symptoms are very mild or completely nonexistent.

It is transmitted through sexual contact including sexual intercourse, anal intercourse, and oral intercourse. When left untreated Chlamydia can permanently damage the sexual organs leading to infertility in women and in men.

Chlamydia affects the reproductive organs. In women, it can infect cervix and urinary tract. This can case pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) when the fallopian tubes are infected.

Chlamydia and women. Women may lose fertility if Chlamydia is left untreated. Untreated Chlamydia leads to Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women. This is an infection of the reproductive organs of women.

Chlamydia has a very unique life-cycle, in which in alternates between a non-replicating, infectious elementary body, and a replicating, non-infectious reticulate body. The elementary body is the dispersal form of the pathogen, and is analogous to the spore.

Symptoms

If this infection is untreated the damages are serious health problems and reproductive issues with short or long term problems. This infection is treated with antibiotics very easily.

This infection is one of the most common reasons for blindness in the world. The infection in the womb's neck is generally asymptomatically sexually transmitted disease in majority of the women.

There are many alarming facts about chlamydia. First, many people who are infected with chlamydia are not aware of it. This may be attributed to the nature of this sexually transmitted disease where in certain cases it does not show any symptoms or if it shows any symptoms.

It is after one to three weeks from the time of the acquisition of the infection. This fact is quite startling because one may not even be aware of this dangerous disease. Common symptoms affiliated with men who have chlamydia are discharge coming from the penis, burning sensation during urination, itchiness or irritation in the opening of the penis, and painful urination.

For women, the common symptoms are increase in vaginal discharge, burning sensation while urinating, and painful urination.

Treatments

This can also be transferred from pregnant mother to the child during vaginal birth. Women generally do not experience any symptoms of the infection if they are infected in the neck or the womb.

In men the infection is generally symptomatic with a white discharge from the tip of the penis either with pain or without pain while urinating. The conditions also spread to upper genital tract for women or to epididyms in men.

Taking the antibiotics as prescribed will rid a person of Chlamydia within a few weeks. During the time of treatment, sex partners should practice safe sex because the disease is still contagious during this time.

If used properly, antibiotics can completely cure this sexually transmitted disease. Chlamydia treatment can be achieved in a single dose with the antibiotic azithromycin.
