Tinnitus,Symptoms and Causes

By My Name at 2009-12-15 03:07:15
I was in that class of not knowing I had the condition till my neighbor described her condition. Then I realized I had the condition and had had it for several years. Since I noticed it when I was in my office, I thought it was outside noises coming from my office walls. Now that I realized I have the condition, I notice it in other places, not only just my office. I would not describe my Tinnitus as a ringing in the ears. The sound varies from person to person and in my case it is more like a buzzing in the ears. I read where it is best described as the sound you get by putting a sea shell to the ear.

The major common cause of tinnitus is constant exposure to loud noises. In fact, it is proclaimed that 80% of people suffering from tinnitus have the condition because they were exposed to loud noise in certain shape or form. This could be at their working place or when they are listening to the loud music. Ringing in the ears can also be caused due to the troubles with the sinuses. This is unusual, but in case if you have blocked sinuses from time to time, you may perceive that your hearing changes and one of these changes could be atypical tinnitus symptoms.

First of all, it is important to know that medical cures do not actually exist when it comes to tinnitus. Although treatments exist that attempt to lower any tinnitus symptoms available, they are not able to totally get rid of tinnitus. This would be the reason why the majority of people that suffer from tinnitus nowadays rather look to approaches that are not related to medicine and drugs in order to treat tinnitus.

With tinnitus, people usually hear particular noises and sounds, which do not exist to the outside world. If only the person who suffers from tinnitus can hear the noises and sounds - and nobody else - then this would be known as subjective tinnitus. But if a doctor can actually hear the same noises and sounds after putting special audio instruments to use, then this would be known as objective tinnitus. Subjective tinnitus is much more prevalent than objective tinnitus, though.

The most common tinnitus symptoms are noises from within your ear or inside your head. These sounds are varied, including whistling, hissing, buzzing, roaring, ringing and many other types. In fact, tinnitus is categorized by the different types of sounds that the suffers are hearing. For example, the pulsatile tinnitus is named for the type of tinnitus for which the sufferers hear pulsating sounds. If the sound seem like a repeating single musical note, it is called tonal tinnitus.

The exact type of the sound and the level of the sound that annoys the patients vary from one person to another. It can be experienced in one ear or both, and can be mild for some people but extremely loud and harsh for others. It may occur randomly to some people, but others can be suffering every second of the day. Some people just hear one sound at a time, but others can hear a mix of several different types at the same time. It is not difficult to understand, then, why some people are able to live with it while others are desperately seeking for help.

Symptoms

And though some of us may laugh while reading it but listening to loud music in MP3 players or in an iPod begins the problem of constant ringing in your ears for you.Another factor that can cause tinnitus is taking excessive stress and anxiety. Considering the hectic lifestyle that most of us have to lead through in these times it is only normal to take stress. But excessive of anything is dangerous.Stress harms the hypothalamus. Hypothalamus controls the primary organs of the brain and when the hypothalamus itself is injured then it starts harming different parts of the body and there by your ear starts getting defected slowly.

Tinnitus can result when damaged hair cells produce excess glutamate. Medical researchers looking for ways to relieve the problem are studying the connection between brain nerve cells and other agents that function as neurotransmitters, like glutamate. If there are abnormalities or inadequate communication between the synapses of the auditory nerve and the inner hair cells located in the cochlea, auditory disturbances can occur. It is believed that excessive glutamate is released as individuals take ibuprofen and have hair cells damaged.

Treatments

Recently however, scientists have got a little closer to understanding Tinnitus and developing treatments that can get rid of Tinnitus so that it doesn't come back again. The best thing is that it doesn't involve the use of drugs.

If you suffer from Tinnitus you probably know already that, although it can be extremely annoying, it isn't a serious medical problem in itself. It really is a symptom that is the result of something else wrong in your body and because of that, there isn't going to be a pill that cures it.Discovering that Tinnitus is a secondary problem, the result of other health issues, has now been studied extensively and generally understood. Tinnitus is often the result of a combination of other issues such as anxiety, inner ear problems, anemia, anxiety and of course stress, the cause of so many health issues.

Anyone with impaired hearing may be asked to wear a hearing aid as this can help to relieve the symptoms by making the problem sound less noticeable. As the hearing aid will make external noises seem louder, the 'in ear' noise that is causing the problem will be reduced.

In some cases where a hearing aid isn't required, special devices are used that are designed to be worn instead of them and are part of a tinnitus-retraining course. This simply involves retraining the way you think about noises so the ringing in your ear won't register as a negative noise anymore and thus, will you will not react against it. This can take 18 months+ to complete.
